Working It At Work
Depending on where you work, there is some sort of dress code we have to follow. If you are me, you are not fond of it because it limits you to a certain type of clothing you wouldn’t usually wear. If you work at McDonald’s you might be limited to khaki or black pants and some sort of McDonalds t-shirt and ball cap. Of if you work in retail in a store like American Eagle or Buckle, you may have to wear their brand name clothing. There is also the issue of working at a big company, where you have to be dressed up really nicely and no yoga pants, leggings, or even some shirts like one shoulder shirts aren’t allowed, even if they look very dressy.
Working around these dress codes is sometimes difficult to do especially as a teenager on a budget. This also includes looking cute in clothes you already own. Here are some tips I have from working where I work and working on a budget with clothes I already own.
I always hit up good will first before shopping at big stores. It may be last season’s things but it’s cheaper and I have had better luck shopping there at times than I have at other places. Also always check out the clearance rack. That one pair of pants or that pink dressy top you are looking for might be hiding in there. I totally understand that is takes a while to go through the clearance racks but in the end, it might be worth it. Lastly, always know what sales are going on in the store you are in. If they are having a buy one pair of pants and get one pair for a dollar, I would say even if you can’t find another pair you like, buy two of the same kind. You never know when that one pair will rip and you will have a back up pair.
My closet is filled with thank tops but they are tank tops that have the lace around the collar and ant the bottom. I will usually pair something like this with a black blazer. Most blazers you can get at Kohl’s, Vanity, or Maurice’s, they range between $20 and $30 but you can pair them with just about anything. I not only wear tank tops with them, but I have some dressy tops that are strapless or are good for summer wearing and not for winter. You take those tops and pair it with a blazer and you are good. Now you have several different choices with one purchase you made. You can wear these with dresses also.
For those days when you don’t feel like putting on pants and you want to be dressy, skirts are perfect. Wear them with some tights, a pair of heels or flats and you are good to go. I always go with a flowy black skater skirt of something with more pop, which has a design on it like flowers, or lace. You can always pair a black skater skirt with any type of top or that skirt with a pop, match the colors to a top. If your skirt is black with pink roses on it, match it with a pink top, maybe lace and it goes together fine.
You may just want to go for comfort, on days like this, I always go for the maxi skirts. When you pair the right maxi skirt with a plain top and add some big jewelry to it you are good. Throw your hair back in a bun and add those earrings that catch people’s eyes. It will focus more on your face and not so much on the simple outfit you chose to wear.
The other thing you want to make sure you have is those dressy shoes that are also comfortable. I love my heels but they do not last long and are not comfortable for long periods of time. Go ahead and guy those dressy cute heels but while you are at it, but those lacey flats that you can wear with anything. This way you have your comfy work shoes and cute shoes.
Whether you are working at a big company or just in retail, I hope some of these tips helped you. If not, I am sorry. Let me know if you have any suggestions for working your outfits at work!

I will definitely try these tips! Where I work, it is also very limited on the things you can wear, so this has helped me a lot.
