Do's and Don'ts of Halloween Costumes

Since Halloween is coming up I decided that I would talk about Halloween costumes. There are so many to choose from plus you can do a group, couples, or just a one person costume. Halloween can be fun but you have to make sure you are wearing the right costume. Here are some Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to Halloween costumes.

Do NOT dress anything like the Plastics in Mean Girls: I understand you are in College and want to dress cute but dressing in lingerie with animal’s ears may attract guys but the wrong guys. Same goes for the guys who dress as a swimmer or a stripper, cool you are showing off your body but is the girl actually interested in you?

Do Keep it Fun: I know that being sexy makes you feel good and Halloween mat be the only time of year you can dress sexy or excuse my language slutty for once and not get ridiculed for it but why would you want to. Be something fun, you can be thing 1 and thing 2 wearing more than spandex red shorts and red crop top. You could do a red tank top and a red tutu that is longer and still look awesome.

Do Stay Current: By current I don’t mean the newest thing that came out one month ago. I mean you can be Christina Aguilera but do what she is now, not her in the 90’s. You can be a Burlesque dancer however, don’t overdo it. Make sure you still have some clothes on and that it’s what a more current burlesque type dancer.

Don’t Cop Out:  So what if you aren’t into Halloween or not. If you are invited to a costume only Halloween party you need to dress up. Don’t just throw on some old clothes that are ripped and go as a zombie. You need to actually try and dress up.

Do Go All Out: Whatever you chose to go as for Halloween go all out. Wear the makeup, the six inch heels and do your hair up. You want people to know who you are or what you are trying to be. You don’t want to have to tell them. That takes all the fun out of dressing up for Halloween.

That’s all I have for now, just make sure to have fun with your Halloween costume and don’t be a bum!

Working It At Work

Depending on where you work, there is some sort of dress code we have to follow. If you are me, you are not fond of it because it limits you to a certain type of clothing you wouldn’t usually wear. If you work at McDonald’s you might be limited to khaki or black pants and some sort of McDonalds t-shirt and ball cap. Of if you work in retail in a store like American Eagle or Buckle, you may have to wear their brand name clothing. There is also the issue of working at a big company, where you have to be dressed up really nicely and no yoga pants, leggings, or even some shirts like one shoulder shirts aren’t allowed, even if they look very dressy. Working around these dress codes is sometimes difficult to do especially as a teenager on a budget. This also includes looking cute in clothes you already own. Here are some tips I have from working where I work and working on a budget with clothes I already own. I always hit up good will first before shopping at big stores. It may be last season’s things but it’s cheaper and I have had better luck shopping there at times than I have at other places. Also always check out the clearance rack. That one pair of pants or that pink dressy top you are looking for might be hiding in there. I totally understand that is takes a while to go through the clearance racks but in the end, it might be worth it. Lastly, always know what sales are going on in the store you are in. If they are having a buy one pair of pants and get one pair for a dollar, I would say even if you can’t find another pair you like, buy two of the same kind. You never know when that one pair will rip and you will have a back up pair. My closet is filled with thank tops but they are tank tops that have the lace around the collar and ant the bottom. I will usually pair something like this with a black blazer. Most blazers you can get at Kohl’s, Vanity, or Maurice’s, they range between $20 and $30 but you can pair them with just about anything. I not only wear tank tops with them, but I have some dressy tops that are strapless or are good for summer wearing and not for winter. You take those tops and pair it with a blazer and you are good. Now you have several different choices with one purchase you made. You can wear these with dresses also. For those days when you don’t feel like putting on pants and you want to be dressy, skirts are perfect. Wear them with some tights, a pair of heels or flats and you are good to go. I always go with a flowy black skater skirt of something with more pop, which has a design on it like flowers, or lace. You can always pair a black skater skirt with any type of top or that skirt with a pop, match the colors to a top. If your skirt is black with pink roses on it, match it with a pink top, maybe lace and it goes together fine. You may just want to go for comfort, on days like this, I always go for the maxi skirts. When you pair the right maxi skirt with a plain top and add some big jewelry to it you are good. Throw your hair back in a bun and add those earrings that catch people’s eyes. It will focus more on your face and not so much on the simple outfit you chose to wear. The other thing you want to make sure you have is those dressy shoes that are also comfortable. I love my heels but they do not last long and are not comfortable for long periods of time. Go ahead and guy those dressy cute heels but while you are at it, but those lacey flats that you can wear with anything. This way you have your comfy work shoes and cute shoes. Whether you are working at a big company or just in retail, I hope some of these tips helped you. If not, I am sorry. Let me know if you have any suggestions for working your outfits at work!

Boots! What else is there to say?

Fall is here and it’s here to stay. As much as I would like to live in my sundresses, shorts, and flip flops all year long, in Michigan I can’t. I talked last week mostly about scarves and leggings. This week I am going to talk about shoes! A girl’s favorite essential. Shoes not only have to be cute but they need to be comfy. Girls, I hope you agree with me. I love myself some six inch heels that make me look amazing, however, they are not that comfortable most of the time. If you are anything like me, after about an hour of being in them, we are ready to throw them away.

With it being Fall, we don’t have to worry that much about the six inch heels being out that much and wearing them a lot. Boots are in style and not many have a high heel or heel at all. The thing about the boots is they go high on our calves.

There are different types of boots we have to choose from. There is the bootie, most would say you want the bootie in either black or brown and make sure that it has a thick heel. That way you can stand for a long time and not be uncomfortable.

There is the Moto Boot which is perfect for casual wear. When you have lots of errands to run and you want to be comfortable. These boots should have a solid sole and good leather.

The dressy bootie. This is different than a normal bootie. They will have more detail, and are not made for walking. Theses shoes are for a special occasion when you aren’t walking. These shows are for your dinner date. These booties should be a stiletto, wild colors, open toes, and probably has embellishments.

The Riding Boot is coming into stores right now. These boots are any boot that hits at the knee or higher. These also will have a small heel on them, probably about a one-inch heel. The best colors to get this type of boot in are any shade of brown.

The last type of boot everyone will know what I am talking about. These are your comfortable boots that keep you warm and you wear them with your skinny jeans or leggings. If you are anything like me, you wear them constantly. Yes, I am talking about the all-important Ugg boot. Those flat boots that are perfect to keep your feet warm and just be comfy in.

Now I realize there are a lot more boots out there than the ones I just mentioned however, those are the ones that are in style right now. I am sure that nay girls that reads this will have at least one pair of the boots I mentioned in their closet right now.
